Meet halfway by flight: where to meet when everyone leaves from a different city
The "halfway" point for a group that flies isn't the one on the map, but the destination where the total cost is lowest and the split between everyone is fairest.
No sign-up. Drop in the cities and the destination comes out.
When a group is spread out, the first instinct is "let's meet in the middle". But the geographic middle is almost never the price middle: one city can sit halfway on the map and have expensive flights, while another is further away but well-connected and cheap from everywhere. The middle that matters is the one in the fares, not the one on the ruler.
That's why this doesn't search a single origin. You put in every departure city and compare the total group cost destination by destination. And because lowering the total sometimes leaves one person overpaying, you can sort by fairness: the point that shrinks the gap between who pays most and least, even if it isn't the raw cheapest.
It works best the more scattered the group is and with some flexibility on dates, which is what moves price the most. The numbers you'll see come from cached searches and are indicative; the best option can be checked live before booking. If you'd rather start from a concrete case, there are city-pair examples below.
Frequently asked questions
Isn't halfway just the centre of the map?
Not for flying. The geographic centre can have expensive flights; what matters is where it's cheapest and fairest in fares for the whole group, which often isn't the centre.
How is 'fair' worked out?
By looking at what each person would pay and shrinking the gap between the most and least expensive. You can sort by total cost or by fairness.
Do I need the exact dates?
It helps, but you can try dates and see how the destination changes. Date flexibility is what drops the group price the most.
